DH-60X Moth – Introduction

This airplane is interesting in that it was owned by the magazine ‘Ude og Hjemme’.  This women’s monthly owned two such advertisement planes, OY-DALF and OY-DALP. At this point the colours user are not known.

A letter has been sent to the magazine, which still exists, but I have yet to receive a reply.

A fairly detailed 3-View has been obtained.

Specifications:

Wing span: 9.14 m
Length: 7.29 m
Height: 2.68 m
Weight empty: 417 kg
Weight fuelled: 748 kg
Max speed: 164 km/h
Cruising speed: 137 km/h
Range: 515 km
Ceiling: 4420 m

DH-60X Moth – 3-View

The aircraft is a typical deHavilland construction. As for the model, I will use the exact same construction methods as the deHavilland DH-82A Tiger Moth and the O-maskine. The fuselage and wings are really quick. Unfortunately, I still don’t know what colours were used.

The construction will be balsa-longerons with cross-bracing, also made of balsa. The front of the aircraft, with the motor mount will be made out of plywood.

DH-60X Moth – Walk-around

It turns out that there are a couple of DH-60’s in Sweden. I have been there last week, and I now have a fairly decent walk-around.

DH-60X Moth – Ude og Hjemme

I have been in touch with the – still existing – monthly magazine “Ude og Hjemme”.

They were not exactly what you might call friendly and helpful.

Considering I will be travelling around to airshows with an airplane displaying their logo, giving the massive exposure, I thought they might have been a bit friendlier.

Tough luck!
