Vultee V-1A – Introduction

The Vultee V-1A was a V-1 redesigned to meet American Airlines’ needs for an eight-passenger airliner. American purchased 11 V-1As, but the plane ultimately failed due to safety concerns about a single-engine plane and the advent of the twin-engine Douglas DC-2s and DC-3s. Vultee then redesigned the V-1A for the United States Army Air Corps, but it received few orders.

Design-wise, the Vultee V-1A was constructed using square plates of alu-clad rivetet together in a shingle fashion, with the rear aluclad plate overlapping the shingle in-front.

The model Vultee modelled here will be the V-1A in both civilian as well as in Spanish Civil War configurations.
